READY FOR VALENTINE'S DAY ....
( via pinterest)
My Hubby, Kim is away so I'll be visiting with my son, daughter and grandchildren on February the fourteenth. I've been gathering hearts, glue and stickers so that we can make Valentines together.
Right now, I'm taking a break from all the packing.
It's time for tea.

From the day we are born the image of a heart is the symbol that represents ' Love', to the mind and soul ... Valentine's Day is one of the only celebrations where we actually take the time to express ourselves. If you have a curious mind like me, you have probably researched the history of Valentines and found that it has a bloody past that led to a beautiful beginning.
European folk traditions are directly connected with Saint Valentine's Day.

In 1797, printers were already producing a limited number of cards, with poetry and sketches.
In 1835 more than 60,000 Valentine cards were sent by post in the United Kingdom.

I have tried to make one and it is not as easy as it looks.

Many Valentines were handmade with real lace and ribbons.
Infact, Valentine cards became so popular that by the 1900's they were being assembled in factories.

It is getting harder and harder to find romantic cards. It's just as easy to send one via the internet, somehow that seems impersonal to me ... however ... " It's the thought that counts

Saddly, we do not have the time in our lives to be sentimental. On a positive note, I have noticed that there has been a ressurgance in the craft industry. More and more people are becoming crafty with their creative love of the arts, stamping cards, sewing cards as mixed media projects and even trading ATC cards.
but they are not nearly as
"fancy schmancy" as in the past.
COME ... Let's pick a teacup.
Colored roses always look beautiful on black china, so this week I selected a "pink" rose teaset manufactured
in England under the Windsor trademark.
It is so beautifully trimmed with gold leaf around the rims and at the base of the cup.
I imagine it would suit even the most modern teatime lady.
In the language of flowers, the Rose symbolizes unity and love.
Red Roses signify perfect love and respect
Pink Roses represent perfect happiness
Yellow Roses signal gladdness, joy and friendship.
This yellow rose has a tinge of red blushed within
the petals so that must indicate
the mixed meaning of sharing both ...

A roses' intoxicating fragrance somehow infuses us with
timeless memories like that of Springtime.
It lingers in our mind always fresh and new.
What color of rose do you like best ?
Valentine's Day
reminds us to embrace the fullness of life
that the rose represents.

Dear Valentine: Come away with me. If I had a day with you and you only I would enjoy the simple things. The things that, in the end, when time steals the rest away are the only things we'll remember. I would paddle you across a still lake in a rowboat and read poetry to you until you fell asleep. And I would never ever think about the hours. Read more: https://www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk/view_episode_scripts.php?tv-show=everwood&episode=s01e16

These vintage Valentine's are so charming, Zaa. My sister first introduced me to the vintage cards many years ago, and ever since then, I was hooked. That's nice that you'll be spending the day with your son, daughter, and grandkids. It will be fun to make Valentines together. Your tea cup is gorgeous.
Well, you asked what color rose I liked best? The red rose makes my heart sing, but the Pink rose is second favorite. But really, I love them all! They are sturdy flowers and have been around for many many years bringing joy to those who appreciate them.
Happy Valentine's Day, Zaa!

This is such a pretty post. I love Valentines. My mom loved Valentines. I think she kept most of the sweet little Valentines the grandchildren gave her. She stuck them in her Bible. Te me, Valentines just aren't as sweet, or beautiful as they once were. I never think of making my own until it's too near Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day.
Thank for the visit Sheri ...I've always loved Valentines Day ... so glad that you do too... Big Hugs

Dear Henny Penny ... I agree ...somehow Valentines aren't as heartfelt, but we can remedy that by making our own ..but like you I often forget too( ha ha) .. Have a Happy Valentines Day ...Hugs
The display of flower-patterned tea looks beautiful.

What a beautiful post, I really enjoyed browsing the vintage cards, they are so elegant and pretty. The cup and saucer too was a delight. Happy Valentine's Day.
Zaa, I always love reading your lovely posts, but especially today! Sending a sweet Valentine to those we love is so important. I imagine you are having a wonderful time with your grands making cards. I love the old Valentines and the one you made is so pretty. Thank you for the tea in your lovely china. Tea always tastes better in a fine cup such as your's. Happy Valentine's, my friend. ♥
I love Valentine's Day!! I always have even as a little kid. Our teachers used to bring in a big box for us kids to decorate with a slit on the top and we would all bring in our Valentines and wait for the big day to come. Then we would take turns playing postman and deliver the Valentines. Today's classes are so different but at least so far they allow the kids to bring in cards. I so enjoyed reading your post. I printed out your puzzle and I will see how it goes! When my husband and I moved to this house years ago he brought me a beautiful yellow rose with a tinge of color. I think it was called a Peace rose. I look forward to it blooming every year. I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day and create beautiful memories with the famiy.
This is a glorious post! Just makes me happy to look at each and every photo -- all the cards, your beautiful china. I love your wonderful valentine collection! I made all my Valentines this year. Such fun. I'd love to try that puzzle but another year, perhaps!

Zaa, that 1816 puzzle purse is quite something! I'm not very crafty, so I know it's too complicated for me. Teacups and roses, just beautiful. I've always been partial to yellow roses, but really I like them all. Have a wonderful day!

I loved your ❤️ Day post, sweet friend! Of course, your gorgeous teacup made my heart go pitter patter. I always love a pretty design inside the cup, but the saucer is too pretty to hide. I bought myself a bouquet of pink roses this year, just because! I definitely love pink or red roses. I hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day, filled with love. 💕
Thank You Kitty... I'm so glad that you treated yourself with love on Valentines Day ...BIG HUGS
So special that you made cards with kids and grandkids, I do love all the vintage you have shared, hubby and I like to make cards for each other, the one he made me this year was quite creative. Hubby gave me some two tone yellow and orange roses, I love peach roses the best but they didn't have them.
Love your shaped tea cup, there are so many interesting shapes and styles out there.
Thanks Connie.... Oh what fun that your hubby likes to make cards too... Yes... peach roses are so pretty especially when they are open( gorgeous)...SO happy that you came for tea..Have a lovely week-end...Hugs
Such a lovely post! I love vintage Valentine cards. My favorite roses are white, but my husband got me pink this year, and I do have to say I quite like them. For some reason, I don't care for the red. xo
A beautifully written post, your valentine's card are so lovely, I remember making mine when I was younger using the lace paper. I love roses all colors as long as they are fragrant. Thank you for visiting me.
Blessings,
Sue
Oh Zaa, this was such a wonderful Valentines post.
My good wishes.
All the best Jan
Oh how happy I am to have happened upon your blog! Such a joyful, beautiful, delightful charm you have! I adore all things tea, and was delighted to see your gorgeous teacups, I love the rosy pink on black, beautiful! And how intricate and amazing to see the work people put into their Valentines in the 1800s! Incredible. It is fun to make the artist trading cards, I haven't done any in a while. I hope you had an incredibly lovely time with your children and grandchildren, blessings!
