“TO MY VALENTINE"

READY FOR VALENTINE'S DAY ....

( via pinterest)
My Hubby, Kim is away so I'll be visiting with my son, daughter and grandchildren on February the  fourteenth.  I've been gathering hearts, glue and stickers so that we can make Valentines together.

Right now, I'm taking a break from all the packing.
 It's time for tea.

PLEASE JOIN ME

From the day we are born the image of a heart  is the symbol that represents ' Love'to the mind and soul ... Valentine's Day is one of the only celebrations where we actually take the time to express ourselves. If you have a curious mind like me, you have probably researched the history of Valentines and found that it has a bloody past that led to a beautiful beginning.

European folk traditions are directly connected with Saint Valentine's Day
In 1797, printers were already producing a limited number of cards, with poetry and sketches.
In 1835 more than 60,000 Valentine cards were sent by post in the United Kingdom.

There are so many wonderful  expressions of LOVE.

Here's a handmade Valentine
puzzle purse from (1816).

I have  tried to make one and it is not as easy as it looks.
(collected from pinterest)

Many Valentines were handmade with real lace and ribbons.

Infact, Valentine cards became so popular that by the 1900's  they were being assembled in factories.

Like this Vintage3-D valentine that
I found for sale on E-bay.

The intricate paperlace Valentines  from Europe(below) are exquisite.

It is getting harder and harder to find romantic cards. It's just as easy to send one via the internet, somehow that seems impersonal to me ... however ... " It's the thought that counts
( Right)

Saddly, we do not have the time in our lives to be sentimental.  On a positive note,  I have noticed that there has been a ressurgance in the craft industry. More and more people are becoming crafty with their creative love of the arts, stamping cards, sewing cards as mixed media projects and even trading ATC cards.

I've even made a few Artist Trading Cards,
but they are not nearly as
"fancy schmancy"  as in the past.

COME ... Let's pick a teacup.
Colored roses always  look beautiful on black china,
so this week I selected a "pink" rose teaset manufactured
in England under the Windsor trademark.

This teacup has quite a unique shape that I love to sip tea from.

It is so beautifully trimmed with gold leaf around the rims and at the base of the cup.

I imagine it would suit even the most modern teatime lady.

In the language of flowers, the Rose symbolizes unity and love.

Red Roses signify perfect love and respect

Pink Roses represent  perfect happiness

Yellow Roses  signal gladdness, joy and friendship.

This yellow rose  has a tinge of red blushed within
the petals so that must  indicate
the  mixed meaning of  sharing  both ...

  "LOVE and  FRIENDSHIP"

A roses' intoxicating  fragrance somehow infuses us with
timeless memories like that of Springtime.
It lingers in our mind always fresh and new.

What color of rose do you like best ?

                                                           Valentine's  Day
reminds us to embrace the fullness of life
                              that the rose represents.

                             LIVE  and LOVE
                                      LIFE
                                       with
                                  PASSION.

                                                                      (via pinterest)
Take the time to send a Valentine's Day card to someone.

Love comes in all shapes and sizes ,

Dear Valentine: Come away with me.
If I had a day with you and you only I would enjoy the simple things.
The things that, in the end, when time steals the rest away are the only things we'll remember.
I would paddle you across a still lake in a rowboat and read poetry to you until you fell asleep.
And I would never ever think about the hours.

“ RED ROSES"

                                                 WELCOME TO
                             FEBRUARY

Teatime is dedicated to the color red .
One of my hobbies is photography ... I particularly love
                                     to capture flowers.

                           RED ROSES make me HAPPY

I took these pictures at the SHOGUN Gardens in
 Iwakuni, Japan.

Wandering  into a SHOGUN reality is like discovering  a gateway into botanical heaven ...
but first you have to get past the gate.

PLEASE COME IN

Everything is handmade.

Of course, many gardeners dedicate hours of loving  maintenance in honor
of the
gardens
and the gifts they bring to us all.

Snapping pictures seems so insignificant in comparison to

the momentuous  task spent
cultivating and caring for the plants.
Most of the roses are vintage, so the aromatic scent in the air was intoxicating, especially in the red and pink ones.

It is nearly impossible to describe the scent or beauty of a
rose.
"A rose by any other name would not smell as sweet"
(William Shakeskpeare)

" Oh my luve's is like a red, red rose,
that's newly sprung in June:
My luve is like a melody that's sweetly
played in tune.
As fair thou art my bonny lass,
So deep in luve am I;
and I will luve thee still my dear,
tho a' the seas gang dry."
(Robert Burns)

OMG... I almost forgot ... It's time for tea.

Old Country Rose tea cups are so simple and yet so elegant.
I have a setting of six with the cream and sugar.

I have  collected black china sets with roses
since childhood ...What do you collect?

There now, let's take out two cups for tea.
One for you and one for me.

I do hope that you like "Mighty Leaf "mint tea, it's probably the only bagged tea that I truly enjoy.

In the meantime, I had a lovely Japanese napkin that I made into a paperdoll for Valentine's Day.
YES, I still play with paperdolls ... Don't you ?

My mother designed evening gowns and wedding dresses, as a result, I have inherited her love of drawing gowns on paper.(ie) paperdolls. It's a happy past-time.!!!

Though I very seldom wear red, who could resist trying on a beautiful gowns like this one
which was displayed in the Kyoto hotel lobby.

While looking into old boxes, I just happened to find some romantic literature from my college days and thought that they would be  quick and fun to re-read.

" My Beloved, Classic Messages of Love",  fit perfectly into the Valentine's Day theme. It is a small book that contains  various intimate love letters and passages from famous people like, Elizabeth Barrett Browning to Robert Browning, Cassanova,
( that one made me laugh),  Napoleon to Josephine
 and( below)
Ludwig Von  Beethoven to his Immortal Beloved... truly a tragic love affair.

"Though still in bed my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved, now and then joyfully, then saddly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us "
" Love me--- today-yesterday-what tearful longings for you-you-you-my life-my all---farewell----Oh continue to love me ----never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved L.."

SOUNDS LIKE TRUE LOVE TO ME !!!

You may view or order the movie, " Immortal Beloved" on Amazon or Netflix.

THANK FOR THE VISIT LADIES

                                      May you all receive
          RED ROSES for VALENTINE'S DAY
